· Seminole County was created on April 25, 1913 out of part of Orange County by the Florida Legislature.
· The name "Seminole" is thought to be derived from the Spanish word cimarron, meaning "wild" or “runaway.”
· Seminole County's location between Volusia County and Orange County has made it one of the fastest growing counties in Florida.
· Seminole County is currently the 12th largest county in the State of Florida according to the 2000 Census report from the U.S. Census Bureau.

· Seminole County leads the region with 33.3% of all residents holding at least a four-year college degree.
· Seminole County has the highest per capita personal income in the region at $40,946.
· The number of Arts, Cultural, & Humanities organizations in Seminole County increased by 57% between 2000 and 2008.
